Pony Rides

You can start your child's day in Griffith park from Pony Rides, which is always fun and interesting for kids. If you enter the Griffith Park from Los Feliz Boulevard, and just continue on Crystal Springs Dr., in a couple of minutes you'll see Pony Rides just on your right (address: 4400 Crystal Springs Dr.; hours: Tue-Sun 10am-4pm).

There are three types of ponies that you can choose for your child to ride: slow, medium, and big ponies. The slow ponies are for children 1+, but I took my son there when he was 3, and I sill was a little scared. The matter is that you put your child on the pony, the staff secures him onto the saddle, and then the pony takes him without you or the staff. Of course, the staff are still there to watch the ponies and the kids, but there are only 2-3 of them for about 10-15 ponies. The ponies walk around the arena track at a slow and very steady pace. Though it was the first time for my kid to ride a pony, I can assure that the ponies were very well-trained to walk around the track. we really enjoyed the ride. The medium ponies are a lot faster, and they are for 3+ kids, however, I wouldn't advise to take them if it's your kid's first time. The big ponies are for 7+ children. They are pretty fast, sometimes even slightly jumping. I believe all the ponies are really well-trained and secure, so you can be sure your child will not fall. The only thing to worry about is whether your child is ready for it or not in order not to make them scared and unmotivated for next times. I've read there are also "pony sweeps" for very little ones, and "wagon rides" for the whole families, but I haven't checked them out.

Pony Rides are fun, and they cost only 3$ per person, so be sure to check it out. I wish you a fantastic time there!

  1. I remember this park. We used to go when we were children. My baby sister and nieces enjoyed their time there.

Oh, so many years ago. My younger sister took her son there once and he cried. I reminded her with her picture of her crying. Her son was exactly like her, all tears.
    Great times.

  2. What a delightful place! I don't have kids but now I want to find friends with kids so that I can spend a day out with them at a place like this! I love how reasonably priced the ride was and I love that there is a place like this to take kids "out" to. I think it's so important to get kids out interacting with nature and animals considering how much time is spent with technology!

  4. Thank you for the helpful post. I really need that kind of information about the places I can visit with my kids at the weekends. My kids used to ride horses in my country so I hope they will enjoy riding little ponies.

  6. I live very close to the Griffith Park, but I didn't know that there were so many activities for kids. I don't have kids, but I do have friends with kids who never know what to do or where to go. This is definitely a healthy and natural environment where kids can have lots of fun. When I go to Griffith Park, I usually hike or go to the free Shakespeare festival (free plays in the park) in the summers. One of my favorite spots used to be the LA Zoo, but it recent years it has become more expensive to get in, and there are not so many animals anymore. Still the Griffith Park is a great place to hang out in open and natural environment.

  7. Griffith Observatory is also very close to the Griffith Park. Visitors can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Planetarium ( which I highly recommend), and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign.

  8. Griffith Park seems to have interesting and fun activities on offer. The children playing on your web page background remind me of happy childhood memories. I was in boarding school from a young age and we knew how to have fun. We could really entertain ourselves. On any given Saturday it was fun day. No electronic games or anything. What we had was a bunch of kids starting a team in one of the school fields and it was on! Perhaps one day I will visit Griffith park.
